This 180g re-release by Analogue Productions is a great sounding recording of a historic TV event. For a rare and impressive one-hour nationwide broadcast, CBS brought together 32 top jazz musicians of the swing era - all of them luminaries in their field - for a jam session that would become the definitive session. The noise-free double LP, where the music is spread over four sides of the vinyl, reduces distortion and high-frequency losses, as the stereo pickup can follow the wider grooves better.

The one-hour program was broadcast live from CBS Studio 58 in New York on Sunday, December 8, 1957, from the City Theater on 9th Avenue, No. 851.

Columbia Records released this LP in 1958, which is actually the dress rehearsal before the TV show (recorded on December 4 at Columbia Studios on 30th Street), not a recording of the show. Not all of the artists appearing on the TV show are represented on the recording (Mulligan refused to participate because there was no additional honorary award for this), but others who did not appear on the show.

For this new edition of Analogue Productions the original tape was used as well as the best possible mastering - Ryan K. Smith of Sterling Sound did a heavenly job; the electroplating at Quality Record Pressings was of course done by technical master Gary Salstrom. Our 180g QRP platters provide a completely noiseless background, which is the basis for the excellent sound engineering.
